This month the Simmons Mesothelioma Foundation marks one year of philanthropic support for leading medical researchers and treatment specialists across the United States. Keep reading for a summary of the foundation’s accomplishments throughout 2010. As 2011 begins, the foundation will build on the success of 2010 by continuing to support national efforts of medical experts and researchers, hospitals, universities, patient caregivers, advocates and philanthropic organizations in pursuit of improved quality of life for patients and, ultimately, a cure for mesothelioma. The Simmons Mesothelioma Foundation is proud to announce that Miles for Meso, an advocacy project through the foundation, has raised more than $40,000 for mesothelioma research. The money was raised through three Miles for Meso races in Alton, Illinois; Rushville, Indiana; and Fairfax Station, Virginia. They took place Sept. 25-26, 2010, in observance of Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Read more »

The Simmons Mesothelioma Foundation recently donated $10,000 to the Center for Asbestos Related Disease Foundation as part of its mission to support the few research facilities for this rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure. The funding will be used to increase the capacity of the CARD Foundation to implement fundraising activities to directly benefit the non-profit organization. Read more »

The Simmons law firm, a national law firm that has represented thousands of families affected by mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, announced that it has founded a private non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting mesothelioma research. The 501(c)3 will be called the Simmons Mesothelioma Foundation. “Mesothelioma is an ‘orphan’ cancer disease that affects approximately 3,000 families each year and has needlessly taken the lives of thousands of innocent people,” said Joy Wheeler, Foundation board member and VP of Medical and Patient Relations for the Simmons law firm. "We hope the Simmons Mesothelioma Foundation will grow into a catalyst to help fund the fight against this rare disease.” Read more »
