Pleural (chest)

  • pain in the lower back or at the side of the chest
  • shortness of breath, painful breathing
  • cough, dry cough, painful coughing
  • fever
  • sweating
  • fatigue
  • weight loss
  • trouble swallowing
  • hoarseness
  • swelling of the face and arms
  • muscle weakness
  

Peritoneal (abdomen)

  • abdominal (belly) pain
  • swelling or fluid in the abdomen
  • weight loss
  • nausea and vomiting
  • bowel obstruction/change in bowel habits, such as more frequent diarrhea or constipation
  • blood clotting abnormalities
  • anemia
  • fever

Complexities of mesothelioma symptoms

Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear for up to 50 years after exposure, and other, less serious conditions can easily be confused with it due to similarities. Because of the difficulty in detecting the exact condition and distinguishing it from more common ailments, an experienced doctor should always be consulted to confirm a mesothelioma diagnosis.
